PP024 In The Woods There Is A Bird Olaf Nicolai
“In the woods there is a bird; his song stops you and makes you blush. (...) And finally, whenever you are hungry and thirsty, there’s someone who chases you away“ (Arthur Rimbaud)
IN THE WOODS THERE IS A BIRD… is both an ongoing sound and publication project by Olaf Nicolai, published as a contribution to documenta 14 and the documenta 14 radio program. It is based on archival sound material extracted from radio reports, employing radio as a source (rather than a medium of transmission): background sounds of demonstrations, riots, rallies, originally recorded for radio stations all over the world, are used as source material for this soundtrack composed of these various ‘ambiences’. The ‘real sounds’ are defined by a lack of reference that is usually added by the auditive or written indices that surround and date them. The affiliated artist book IN THE WOODS THERE IS A BIRD… reflects not only the process of detaching, mixing, referencing and re-referencing in a visual essay. It also offers for this new composition an index and frames the recorded sounds by presenting a list of the places and dates the events. The artist book IN THE WOODS THERE IS A BIRD…is published by Koenig Books.

PP023 A Memoir from the Youth Pt. II Mr. Tophat
Sound does not usually come from a single source. Emotions usually do not come from a single source. The way we perceive is by filtering. Within this complex process there are many difficulties to overcome and many discoveries to make. How long is the club inside of you – after you have been inside of him? How do Love, Soup and Beer choices affect your daily life? And what do an Island and an Airport have in common? By morphing real life situations into musical phantasies Mr. Tophat tries to find answers to these and many other questions. Along the way there is darkness but also fun and hope.

PP018 Wind-s Obalski
Catalogue Number PP018 has been work in progress for quite a while now. Wind-s originally appeared in a slightly different version as part of the soundtrack to one of Rohtheaters` plays. The track features all the typical Obalski elements we have grown so fond of in the past. Dreamy pads and odd melodies create the sort of ambient that carries you away somewhere else (Bravo!). We decided that it would be interesting to hear other artists take their turn on the material. The Japanese duo Mascaras (Chida & 5ive) transformed Wind-s in an atmospheric drum workout. Fantastically incorporating the breezy synth elements of the original into their flow of percussion. Press play – Lift off. The B-Side gives space to Nick Höppner‘s epic Techno groove. Ecstasy – evolving – progress.

PP015 A Slice of Heaven Baba Stiltz, Samo DJ & Tzusing
From Orient to Okzident Steady beat - a German? voice - a bar fight - Hong Kong scenes by night - the city cowboys are riding through basement kitchens and along the asphalt. Collecting debts until the next triad board meeting… Meanwhile the junk has left the harbour ready to carry dangerous goods across the ocean. Look over there – it’s the marine police. Can you hear the horns blow in Pacific Times? It’s damn hot in the streets of Beirut. But the bazar gives good cover to those who are on the run. Peeking around corners, hiding in the sandy breezes until the dark night falls. So finally one can indulge in the more lustrous activities of life… There the glamour and dispersal awaits the ones who can afford it. Take a risk – no way we gonna hollahback. Samo DJ, Baba Stiltz and Tzusing came together to form this four track EP that invites you to let your mind wander to foreign territories. Take the ride and find yourself in exotic places far from here and now… but still so close.

PP014 Gulf Area Mechatok
"4 friends who rather be early than l8te“ Mechatok is the man. 18 years old, relatively new in the game – he is delivering on a level we didn’t even know was existing before we got to check out his stuff. Moving effortlessly between contemporary pop aesthetics, video game soundtrack and dubstep influences he produces music that could work as a score to the NASA end-of-the-year resume commercial – but also gets your local dancefloor into new spheres. This of course is only one interpretation – it could also be Normal Musik in some better place, we suggest you go there and stay as long as you can.

PP013 Nutty Dubs Konrad Wehrmeister
What to expect (when you‘re expecting)? Growing up listening to a lot of dub and roots reggae in our teens and still continuing to do so until today, it is a particular pleasure to us to present the first DUB release on PP. Courtesy of Konrad Wehrmeister (another Munich local), who in the past laid more focus on his technoid musical tastes. Having released under his own name or as part of formations such as “Günther Lause” or “Twoman” on labels like SVS Records and Paradise Now. The outing for PP focuses on his efforts as a producer of the more mellow and laid back audio treatments – creating a dense atmosphere that instantly sucks you in – so cherish the moment and explore the sound cosmos that is offered to you within the three Nutty Dubs. No matter if high or low - the levels you wanna reach are definitely worth the cheat. Dive in and get carried away (no expectations necessary).

PP012 Insomniac TMO
PP proudly presents „another double urge to turn up the volume“: The 12th offering on Public Possession comes from TMO (aka Leonid Lipelis). Lipelis, who is based in Moscow and whom we met there first when playing in Russia, is a music maniac. This was clear almost instantly and at some point during the night we found ourselves on the couch in his homestudio, where he played us an array of tracks from his various guises and projects. One of the first tracks presented to us was "Melodic Jam". It grabbed our attention immediately with its raw acid sound merging perfectly with beautiful atmospheric synth pads and an almost naive melody – powerful and emotional stuff. Since TMO is a project based around the concept of Lipelis recording one-take jams with his studio hardware (only doing slight adjustments subsequently) the sound has a lot of grit and spontaneity. Jam IV concludes this EP. Shorter and a bit slower than its counterpart on side A, it gets to the point quickly and leaves no questions unanswered – except when is the next one coming??

Flip sides – Fast a basedrum jumps and punches, soft yet certain it leads the way, getting joined by pleasent company of fairylike synth sounds – every now and then a Bumblebee hums. PP010 Hyper-Realised-Self Bell Towers
The tenth release on Public Possession comes from no other than Bell Towers. Over the last two years he significantly helped to coin the sound of the label and we are very happy that he is continuing to do so. On this “highly conceptual” release by BT there is a ME) and a you YOU) side. Selfish - Selfless. A glimpse into the romantic mind of Bell Towers. Side one features the bumpy dance cut “Hyper - Realised - Self” in which he very elegantly recites his track “Lightrail” that was previously released on PP. On the YOU) side Rohan continues to make music not only for the feet, but also the heart. “Jumpin’ Off Into The Sea Of Your Love” is an emotional ride carried by dreamy bells and a powerful bassline. Make sure to make eye contact with a person of your choice before playing that record.

PP009 Drunch Anton Klint
For the nineth offering on Public Possession Anton Klint returns with another highly danceable two track EP. “Save yourself some time and have Drunch”, is what is suggested on a sticker gracing the cover. This dictum can be interpreted in various ways, but one thing is for sure, if you buy this record – you will have at least two tracks that will help you control the dancefloor with ease any given night. The title giving “Drunch” is an euphoric dance track that puts upon you layers of emotional guitar riffs in typical Klintman manner. Flip side to discover what Anton serves you for “Dessert”. At 132bpm this high energy twister leaves no questions unanswered. Another double cheers from Anton Klint to all of us.

PP008 Sap Sap Seio La Samo DJ presents
Public Possession’s eight offering is a 10” EP curated by our good friend Samo DJ from Stockholm. Co-running the fantastic Born Free label with Daniel Isling aka Sling, releasing records on his own and in various different formations on Labels such as L.I.E.S., Born Free, High Feelings and more, he seemed to be exactly the right person to tackle the task of putting this record together. On A1 he sparks your appetit for more with the short but on point. „Sha Tin 4am“ he produced himself in Hong Kong at his appartment located close to a horse racing track – flawless soundscapes galopping along. If you can’t get enough we suggest buy two copies and extend to a length that is to your satisfaction. A2 is produced by Daniel Savio and Sam Nyholm who together form “Over the Hill”, Stockholm’s most dangerous ethnic Techno Band. Slow heavy baseline, synth stabs and a dubby groove all contained in this psychedelic ride, preferably listened to loud! The whole B-side gives space to “Here My Dear”, courtesy of the yet unheard-of Taro Tokugawa. A very danceable trip that is on the edge of Pop music but uses a vocal sample that you would rather expect to be in a track by the Wu-Tang Clan. Now please go on to check out this record.

PP007 Collected Works Pt. 1 Henry Gilles
Get a first glimpse into the musical mind of Henry Gilles. On their 7th offering Public Possession proudly presents to you another Munich Local: This is the first part of "Collected Works" Henry has gathered over the past three years, with the second soon to come. We are very happy to share these tracks with you as we think Henry is one of the most interesting young producers out there. Whilst this release is musically leaning towards house and disco you can expect a wide range of different styles in the near future, ranging from Hip Hop to Downbeat and further. We hope you enjoy this as much as we do!

PP006 Spritzer Anton Klint
The 6th offering by Public Possession comes from our old friend Anton Klint. We have been playing records together for many years and he is for sure one of the best Rock/Disco DJs we know. He has put out a few records together with his partner Edvin Edvinson as Tiedye in the past, but this is his first ever solo production to be released. We are very happy that we could work with him on this one and are now able to present to you "The Spritzer EP“. Whilst Part 01 is more pumping and dance floor orientated, on Part02 Anton develops an epic guitar driven flood of joy. Play this at the riviera beaches and on the Cote d'Azur... you can be be sure to have bottles pop open and blouses unbutton immediately.
